Mexican Dream Herb (Calea zacatechichi, also called “bitter grass”) is a flowering plant native to Mexico and Central America. It has a long history of use among Indigenous groups—especially the Chontal Maya—for dream enhancement and spiritual practices.
Traditionally, it’s classified as an oneirogen—a substance believed to influence dreaming.
The primary reason people use this herb is for its effects on dreaming:
More vivid and intense dreams
Increased dream recall
Potential for lucid dreaming (being aware you're dreaming)
Longer or more frequent dream episodes
Some users also report a deeper sense of meaning or insight in dreams.
Considered mildly hallucinogenic
Can produce dream-like or altered mental states
